Ed Drew’s Wartime Tintypes from Afghanistan
A really fascinating experiment by an Air National Guard member in Afghanistan using old tintype wet plates to do Civil War era-like photos of his fellow soldiers.Â
One of the biggest challenges of trying to work with collodion and create portraits that often take more than an hour per plate was the time commitment. On call at a moment’s notice sometimes for impromptu missions, he had to scrub his set up mid-stream on more than one occasion.

Sorry to hear that NC State’s women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper will not be coming back. I don’t know the back story, but I do know that she was a great person. Her first season I did a behind-the-scenes story on her and found her warm and welcoming. Best to her for the future.Â
